Growing Habulous: An Exciting Chapter for Our Little Pottery on Dartmoor

Growing Habulous: An Exciting Chapter for Our Little Pottery on Dartmoor

When we first set up our little pottery on the edge of Dartmoor National Park, we couldn’t have imagined quite how much Habulous would grow. Nestled near Yelverton, Devon (PL20 7PY), our small working studio has always been about more than just making ceramics, it’s about craftsmanship, care, sustainability, and creating beautiful pieces that elevate the everyday.

At Habulous Ceramics, we specialise in functional and decorative stoneware, lovingly handmade in small batches. Each piece that leaves our studio reflects our commitment to ethical production and planet-friendly values. We believe in thoughtful making, creating ceramics with intention, attention to detail, and respect for the materials we use.

As our business continues to flourish, we’ve reached an exciting point in our journey: growth.

We’re Looking for a Production Potter

We are seeking a confident and efficient potter to assist with the production of Habulous’ range of tableware and decorative wheel-thrown ceramics. You will be working to our specifications to ensure consistency across our product range, while maintaining the handmade quality that defines our brand.

This is not a position for an apprentice. We are looking for someone who is already confident on the wheel, and able to work independently.

Key Responsibilities

  • Throwing tableware and decorative ceramics to our established specifications

  • Reclaiming and preparing clay (we have a Peter Pugger pug mill to make this straightforward)

  • Glazing and glaze mixing

  • Kiln loading and unloading

  • Helping to maintain a clean and safe studio environment

Hours

8–16 hours per week.
We can be flexible on days and hours, within our standard studio hours of 9:00am–5:30pm, Monday to Friday.

Skills & Experience

  • Confident and efficient on the wheel

  • Ideally experience as a production potter (though not essential)

  • Strong eye for detail

  • A positive team player who enjoys working in a small studio environment

Pay

£12.50 – £15.00 per hour, depending on experience, potential piece work rate in addition to hourly when target times are met.

A Little Extra Information

We are a small, friendly working studio — and we do have two studio dogs who are very much part of the team.

How to Apply

If you’d love to join a growing, values-driven ceramics studio in a beautiful Dartmoor setting, please email your CV, contact details, and any other relevant information to:

We’re excited about this next chapter for Habulous and look forward to welcoming the right person to our team.
