Nicky Edmunds has always been creative, many close friends would call her a serial crafter! And, a medium that she found and fell in love with, was clay. Clay is a wonderful medium that has endless possibilities - there is nothing more satisfying then taking a ball of clay and turning it into something that can be treasured and used again and again.
Our ethos is to deliver British made, thoughtfully designed pieces, that all have a character of their own, designed to last the test of time and encourage people to move away from a throwaway society. We would love to see traditional crafts grow again and for us all to move away from the mass produced. So, after years of experimenting and lots of practice, Nicky realised she was making ceramics people loved and wanted to own, which is how Habulous was founded.
Why 'Habulous'? Well, the name was made up by Nicky's daughter, combining “Happy and Fabulous”, which in turn sums up how working with the craft makes our team feel.
The Habulous studio is situated in the beautiful and contrasting county of Devon, on Dartmoor National Park, a source of constant inspiration for Nicky and her team. Habulous’ small team all share a passion for clay and making by hand, which is what makes every item we create so special.
The beauty of handmade products is that every single piece is unique, made with genuine care, time and love. As a group of creatives, sharing ideas, individual skills and laughter in our little Dartmoor studio, it is incredibly special to us when our work is sent to new homes and appreciated by our customers. Habulous is very much a fledging company who, without our your support, would not be here. So, thank you.
MEET THE TEAM
Nicky is an artist, potter and shop keeper, who finds her quiet time when creating at the wheel. The owner and founder of Habulous, Nicky is always coming up with new and exciting ideas to keep the business growing.
Paul is the creator of our website and maintainer of our (not-so-exciting) accounts. He is also the maker of our Eco soya wax melts and is Habulous' very own Mr Handy - if anything breaks, he fixes it!
Our newest team members, Ellie, Gregory and Cara, initially joined via the government's kickstart scheme, which has been a great way to encourage growth in the company and the contribution of new and different ideas. We've written a few blogposts sharing their journey with you, so do pop over and take a look.
Ellie, who graduated with a degree in English Language, is an avid painter and lover of detail or anything miniature. Having grown up on Dartmoor, she finds her inspiration in the surrounding landscape and moments with friends and family. Her zest for art and writing has made her our social media guru and corrector of Nicky's dyslexic spellings!
Gregory, who graduated with a degree in 3D Design, has worked with clay as well as making jewellery, adding his own creative flare to our studio - not to mention a pop of vibrant colour with his variety of patterned shirts!
